Ritual of Unrestricted Work

Il progetto presentato in Sala Dogana consiste nell’unione di diversi progetti realizzati nel corso di due anni. Diversi elementi costruiscono una molteplice rete di rapporti e riferimenti: video, frammenti di poesia concreta, fotografie analogiche legate a diversi progetti site-specific, calchi in resina e gesso, tracce sonore diffuse nello spazio composte dalla manipolazione elettronica di field recordings e di suoni generati.
Attraverso documentari e filmati d’archivio sugli animali predatori, rielaborati e inquadrati in uno sfondo a forma di stella a nove punte, le immagini estrapolate dagli stills video rimandano ad un preciso momento rituale nell’azione dei lupi. Il progetto si estende al calco di un cranio di lupo, realizzato in resina; il calco del teschio ridotto in frammenti aggiunge un successivo livello di astrazione. La stella a nove punte suggerisce l’'immagine del cristallo di neve, la fragile formazione naturale che nasce nelle atmosfere più fredde e sparisce con il calore terrestre.

Il progetto pone delle questioni riguardo all’idea di lavoro, gioco e condivisione, ma anche un riferimento alla legge europea che, dal medioevo, descrive i fuorilegge come ‘teste di lupo’, in uno stato di limbo tra uomo e l’animale, banditi dalla legge stessa.

Ritual of unrestricted work accenna ad argomenti quali la rappresentazione alternativa
del problema entropico della vita/morte, animale/uomo, lavoro e rituale,
in un aperto trans-possesso della creatività e del gioco come lavoro autonomo.

Ronny Faber Dahl è un artista norvegese residente in Norvegia e in Italia. Influenzato dal minimalismo, dalla teoria critica e dal sound art, è studente presso l’Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti di Genova.

Ritual of Unrestricted Work consist of different works connected to regain significance in their reduced relations; a wolf-head’s skull, wood’ spears, wreck-scape of toy-boats, paintings abstracted from a video footage documentation and site-specific series of analog photographs. The work presented combine different projects developed over three years. Most of the works are objects casts in clay, plaster and epoxy and photography deriving from a series of field works. The sonic piece is made up of electronic manipulation of pre-recorded, generated sound and soundscapes spread out in the space. The video is a juxtaposition of a science-documentary about the animal-predatory social structures, subsequently manipulated; while the nine-shaped star is the image of a snow crystal, the most fragile water that creates natural crystals and then disappears on earthly heat. Generated close to the cold upper atmosphere that barely protects us from dead space, they create a structure of minimal beauty but still cold, and temporary.
The concrete-poems depict a complexity in the use of a free language as a tool for poetically engaging the origin of contents.
The figurations reveal the animal’s collaborative gestures like play and hunt. The work opens up questions around work, play and syndicalism, but also echoes medieval European law, where outlaws are described as “wolf heads”, caught in a limbo between human and animal, banished by the law itself.
Where life is fragile to the point of ambiguity and real-myth, the key to how knowledge paradigms ever sucking the blood of alternative cultures becomes unveiled. The history that made possible this giant focus on the paradigm of human sciences, evolve as the past that brings obsessions for order of thing into new existential forms. We may have to look at how culture complexity embracing observability, but also profanations from real-society diverges from documented life and traditional views on creative labor. It could just be entropic realizations of sensibility, where the economical sustainability opens up its Pandora’s potential.
(Real-society; is the unpredictable unknown factors of a whole society with its privacy and its publicity interaction) (Real-myth: is the myths that not only is culturally visualized (mainstream western music, movies, comics, games ect. but hold real practical traces of human survival in “nature” similar to local religious myths of so-called “primitive” societies).
Ronny Faber Dahl is a Norwegian artist based in Norway and Italy. Influenced by minimalism, critical theory, sound art and poetry, his project reflects issues connected with youth culture, alternative religions in relation to society. ‘Ritual of unrestricted work’ hints to topics such as alternative representations of the entropic problem of life/death, animal/man, work and ritual beyond the idea of order into an open trans-possession of creativity and play, as autonomous work. Ronny Faber Dahl is also a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Genova.
